The story behind the name

I have always loved sea glass because of the beautiful green, blue and brown hues that are made even more breathtaking when they are tossed in the water. I am also drawn to pretty glass bottles, especially those with unique shapes, textures or stories. When we purchased our land, it had lot of garbage where our driveway now sits. Included in this garbage were lots of glass bottles in all different shapes, sizes and colors. As unappealing as this may sound, there have been many beautiful and unique glass bottles found at the property. While we obviously do not want to drive on a green glass road, the road itself was only made possible after lots of green glass was recovered. So therin lies the story behind the name of the Adventures at Green Glass Road.

First we move, then we get an earthquake, and then a hurricane. Now we are ready for a vacation!

So it has been a very busy couple of weeks. We have officially moved into our new home, and have been living there since Saturday, August 20th. The kids have transitioned wonderfully to the new home. Three days after we moved in, we had an earthquake about 100 miles from our home. Needless to say, that was an experience I think we could all do without again. Thankfully, it appears that there is no damage to the house. Julia started kindergarten on August 24th, and she has really enjoyed being at the new school and riding the school bus. Andrew started a new school on that same day and immediately walked in, sat down in front of his new teachers, and didn't even look back to give mommy a hug!

Saturday, August 28, Hurricane Irene came to visit-an unwelcome visitor for sure! The winds were quite amazing, as was the rain, but our house and property fared extremely well. Even our old house only had leaves in the yard, no fallen trees or other calamities. However, the main road to our new home had several power lines down, so we had no power on Sunday, and as I type from our old house (our "vacation home" that has power) , I am not sure if we will have it tonight. However, the power company has been pretty responsive and I think it will be up and running very soon. Fingers crossed! Unlike the cable company which has yet to install our internet, tv and phone even though we requested it three weeks ago. So, in the meantime, our cell phones are the best way to reach us-or carrier pigeon :)

And yes, I will be continuing this blog as we put the finishing touches on the house, and beyond...New Adventures at Green Glass Road!

For some reason, I am not able to put the slideshow up from Picasa like normal. Please click on the picture below to take you to the pictures link for this week.
