The story behind the name

I have always loved sea glass because of the beautiful green, blue and brown hues that are made even more breathtaking when they are tossed in the water. I am also drawn to pretty glass bottles, especially those with unique shapes, textures or stories. When we purchased our land, it had lot of garbage where our driveway now sits. Included in this garbage were lots of glass bottles in all different shapes, sizes and colors. As unappealing as this may sound, there have been many beautiful and unique glass bottles found at the property. While we obviously do not want to drive on a green glass road, the road itself was only made possible after lots of green glass was recovered. So therin lies the story behind the name of the Adventures at Green Glass Road.

March 17, 2012-Julia's American Girl Doll Bistro Adventure

For Julia's birthday, Mommy, Grandma, Great Aunt Jeanne and Nikki took Julia to lunch at the American Girl Doll Store Bistro at Tysons Corner, VA

Julia was in heaven with all the pink, but also because she got to select her two favorite foods for lunch!

The bistro had quite the ambiance as well....

And her dolls, Elizabeth and Coco, got the royal treatment as well!

All in all, it was a very special day, for a very special girl!

March 16, 2012: Julia's Party-Take Two

Julia had a 50's Sock Hop Party with her family this year.  And a sock hop wouldn't be complete with out some poodle skirts.  There was a poodle skirt of the cake....

On her American Girl Dolls (thanks to Grammy and Grampy Evenson)

And of course, on the birthday girl, herself!

Even Andrew got in the 50's spirit by dressing like a 1950's teenager.

Of course, the birthday was made complete by the company of her family and their generosity.

March 11, 2012

Julia celebrated her 6th birthday at the pool with some friends.

They all had a great time eating pizza, cookie cake and swimming.  After a little sugar, they also enjoyed a lot of laughter.

I am going to have to try more in the upcoming year not to blink so much...time certainly does fly by!

Answer: "Playing in the dirt", Question: What is my kids favorite thing to do outside?
From 2012-02-27
It never ceases to amaze me how they could (and do) spend endless hours playing with dirt. Or how they can come up with so many games to play with they play with dirt.

Maybe they will be farmers someday?

Gardeners?

Soil conservationists?

Who knows, but for now they seem just happy, and dirty... The only thing that maybe they like to do equally as much is ride with daddy on his tractor.

The kiddos has a great Valentine's Day filled with lots of love...and sugar. I guess that is what makes them so darn sweet.

Julia helped make the Valentine's Day cards with Mommy-all 64 of them!

Between her school, aftercare and Andrew's class, my hands were pretty stiff. They turned out cute, however, so I guess it was all worthwhile. Plus, Mommy LOVES Swedish fish!

Keith clearly is sad that building the house is over, so he has been building other things with the kids. Here are some of their latest creations.

We ordered the materials for the pole barn this week, so I think the Legos will probably be good practice for him until he starts working on that in March.

February 6, 2012

Last week was filled with a couple new furniture purchases at Green Glass Road. Since we moved in, I have been hunting for the perfect barstools for our raised counter. I was starting to feel a little like Goldilocks...to this, to that...until I found one that was "just right". I wanted stools that the kids could sit on, so they needed backs, sides, and I was hoping no swivels. I also wanted ones that were comfortable for adults to sit in for longer periods of time. Lastly, I wanted them to look nice with the rest of the room since it is all open. I guess I should also throw-in that I was hoping that they were decently built, but that is harder to judge sometimes, especially online.

I did find some online that had great reviews, and I think will hold-up well over time. They are also comfortable, and look nice with our other furniture.

As you can see, the kids also enjoy the change of scenery sitting someplace new for breakfast.

We have also been looking for trundle beds for the kid's rooms since we moved-in. This will give us some extra sleeping space for people when they come to visit, and I am sure will serve well for sleepovers for the kids. We found one on Craiglist for Andrew last week that I thought was perfect. It came with the bed, and some matching pieces that look really nice in his room.

He enjoys the new furniture a lot, and his sister is now eagerly awaiting something when we can find it for her room.
